Indeed, since America's birth, different factions and groups have asserted many different views regarding government's role in religion and vice versa—from strict separationism to theocracy. These debates regarding religion and government are as prominent in the public square as ever and enjoy no absence from the courts. As America becomes more religiously diverse, attention must be paid to the relationship between these two institutions to ensure that neither oversteps its prescribed boundaries. These boundaries become clearer as the intent of America's foundeon church and state

a moral defeat for humanityEver since the infamous "axis of evil" speech in 2002, the Bush administration has acted to foster a climate of fear in regards to domestic and foreign policy. It has used the notion of a war on terrorism to justify the seizure of many civil liberties that define the essence of what this administration is supposed to be protecting. It has also manufactured consent for rash foreign policy decisions via a climate of inevitability and fear and used the refuge of patriotism to denounce critics of those decisions.
